On the Future
The thing to remember is that the future comes one day at a time.
– Dean Acheson
Do you have goals for the future? Most people do. It might be to get the cellar cleaned, it might be to get a Master’s Degree, it just be to prepare for that event next week — it is all in the future. So if the future comes one day at a time - we can start now, right? Right!
In the future I’d like to be a nicer person, more patient and thoughtful. Start now. Sometime in the future, I’d like to write a cookbook. Start today. The future, besides coming one day at a time, comes one moment at a time. We might not be able to plan and control our next moment — it might be scheduled for us. But our next day, we might have more control over.
The future can look bright or it can look threatening. We do have control over the future - it is as clear as having control over what happens today or tomorrow.
